Serving Guatemala connects nursing and business students
The Business and Nursing divisions at Roberts Wesleyan College have been reaching out to Santa Cruz, Guatemala since 2004. This past summer was no exception. In May, nursing students and faculty left for Santa Cruz with their luggage full of toothbrushes, vitamins, and other medications. In August, business SIFE students, faculty, and staff followed with business plans in hand.
Nursing Professor Kathleen Walker shares one evening’s activity when the group held a clinic at a soup kitchen. “We served food, prayed for the people, and treated close to 300 of them for medical problems ranging from headaches to broken bones and a probable pneumothorax.”
Not a bad way to spend the summer. Next year the two divisions plan to travel to Guatemala together.
